I’ve officially had my Cricut Joy Extra for about a month now, (check out the unboxing here), and I’m absolutely loving it!
The Cricut Joy Xtra is a great machine if you want to make small to medium sized projects, but don’t have a lot of room or storage for a larger machine. The project possibilities are endless! From personalized labels and stickers, to iron-on designs and custom cards, there’s something for everyone, and of all skill levels.
What is a cricut machine?
Cricut machines are writing, scoring and personal cutting machines that work with a wide variety of materials. The Cricut Joy Extra is a great machine if you want to make small to medium sized projects, but don’t have a lot of room or storage for a larger machine.
What I really love so much about Cricut machines though is that they are so incredibly easy to use. You don’t need to be an experienced crafter or designer to make stunning DIY projects!

WHAT CAN YOU MAKE WITH THE JOY XTRA?
To help illustrate just how versatile these machines are, here are just a few of the projects I’ve made so far using my Joy Xtra while I’ve been playing around with it this past month. (Don’t worry – I’ll be sure to share step-by-step tutorials for these projects soon!)
Printable stickers
Printable stickersThe idea of making print and cut stickers with my Cricut honestly felt a little overwhelming at first. In fact, using my Joy Xtra was my first time ever making print and cut custom stickers with a Cricut machine! And I was really surprised just how easy it was to make them!
I love how these printable custom stickers turned out, and will be making them for every occasion now. I think they make a really cute addition to pop inside cards and envelopes, or even as a little extra gift too.
Heat transfer vinyl (also known as iron-on)
Heat transfer vinyl (also known as iron-on)Heat transfer vinyl (HTV, or iron-on) is one of my absolute favourite materials to work with.
I made an adorable custom cup sleeve using Cricut’s white iron-on material, my Joy Xtra and EasyPress Mini in under 5 minutes. It was so quick and easy! I like always keep a cup sleeve on hand for when my drinks are too warm, and I love how this one turned out.

I love how easy it is to make custom cards, for any occasion, with the Joy Xtra using the Insert Cards or Cutaway card system. I will never buy a drugstore gift card again!

How much will i really use it, and is it worth the money?
The short answer – it’s totally worth the money and if you’re like me, you’ll be surprised just how often you use it. Aside from the obvious crafts, I was really surprised at how having a Cricut machine made my daily life easier, and even more affordable!
A pack of Insert Cards works out to be roughly $2 CAD per card – something that would cost you upwards $6 CAD at a drugstore or grocery store. Since having a Cricut, I find that there are so many times when I’m out shopping that I’ll see something I like and think, “Wait – I can make that with my Cricut, and it’ll be cheaper”.
It’s also an incredibly handy tool for home organization. You can make your own custom labels for everything from spice jars, stationary trays, storage bins, or even label your kid’s clothing and school items. Plus, it’s honestly so much fun!
