What is a Cricut machine, what does it do and is it really worth the price?

December 4, 2019

What is a Cricut machine, what does it do and is it really worth the price?
I know I talk about my Cricut a lot, but honestly that is because I freaking *love* it. It’s also probably the thing I get the most DMs about with questions, and with the holidays quickly approaching I’m sure there’s many of you who are either thinking about asking for one, or purchasing one for someone, so I thought I would write a post to help you make that decision.

(Side note: Anyone else feel like you’re scrambling this year? I swear, December just snuck up on us and I am NOT prepared for the holidays!! Send help.)

Anyways, for this post I’m rounding up some of the most common asked questions about my Cricut Maker. Let’s start with the basics!

5 Things I love about the Cricut Maker + DIY make-up pouch

5 Things I love about the Cricut Maker + DIY make-up pouch

It’s no secret that I love my Cricut  machine. If you don’t know what a Cricut machine is, you are seriously missing out. They are writing, scoring and personal cutting machines that work with a wide variety of materials. I’m talking everything from paper, vinyl, adhesive foil, craft foam,  iron-on transfers, window cling and more. In the past, I’ve made everything from iron-on shirts and pillows, gift cards, customized wine glasses, decanters, mugs, coasters, party banners and more. The crafting-possibilities really are endless with a Cricut machine. (Basically it’s magic.)

I upgraded to the Cricut Maker about a year ago, and my only regret was not upgrading sooner. I always get a lot of questions on Instagram and from friends, family and colleagues about my Cricut – everything from “which machine do I need if I’m thinking about buying one”, to “what can it make” and “is it really worth upgrading to the Maker”.

With the holidays approaching, I thought I’d share some of my favourite things about the Maker!

Easy DIY customized shoes with the Cricut Maker and the new Easy Press Mini

Easy DIY customized shoes with the Cricut Maker and the new Easy Press Mini

Cricut’s iron-on material has always been my favourite material to work with and I love my 9×9 EasyPress, but sometimes it is a little too large for those small designs and tough to reach spaces. Cue the EasyPress Mini, which  was created with that in mind!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know just how excited I was when I found out that Cricut was releasing a mini EasyPress. The plate itself is just under 3.5″ x 2″. It’s great for when you’re working with tight spaces, over curves and to avoid seams.

It has three different temperature levels and the highest setting will work with Cricut’s Infusibile Ink (another one of my favourite materials to work with).  Just like the other EasyPresses, the heat is even across the entire plate and it has an auto-off feature.

Meet the new Cricut Maker Tools: debossing, engraving, perforation and wavy blade

Meet the new Cricut Maker Tools: debossing, engraving, perforation and wavy blade

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of my favourite things about the Cricut Maker is how versatile it is – and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better they go ahead and release 4 new maker tools to take your DIYs to the next level!

I was so excited when I first heard about the new tools for the Maker machine. Between its ability to cut fabric and thicker materials like chipboard, leather and balsa wood the Maker already was the ultimate personal cutting machine.

The addition of the new tools open up a whole whack-load of new projects and materials, so I thought I would take some time to walk you through each of them and what they can do and show you some examples. The new tools are the debossing tip, perforation tip, wavy blade and the engraving tool.
