Even though I eat ice cream year-round (like a true Canadian), there is something so magical and nostalgic about enjoying ice cream in the summertime. I have lots of childhood memories of family bike trips to local ice cream shops to grab a scoop or two of ice cream after dinner on a warm summer night. Growing up, Chapman’s Ice Cream was a family favourite of ours – and it still is today!
Originally founded in 1973 in Markdale, Ontario, Chapman’s has become Canada’s largest independent ice cream company! Y’all know me, I’m big on supporting local and Canadian businesses, so naturally I love the fact that Chapman’s is a Canadian and family-run company.
Aside from those childhood memories and their Canadian roots, one of the biggest reasons why I love Chapman’s so much is because they have a large selection of gluten free products!

If you’re someone who doesn’t have to adhere to a gluten free diet, you might be surprised to know how many ice cream products actually contain gluten; it’s actually something that I didn’t realize until I had to go gluten free for medical reasons myself. Currently, they have 35 different gluten free products. They even have gluten free cookies and cream ice cream, which is a personal favourite of mine! All of their gluten free products have a yellow gluten-free symbol located on the front of the packaging, which makes it incredibly easy to recognize which products are safe for me to enjoy.
Chapman’s is also a recognized industry-leader when it comes to offering allergen friendly frozen treats. In addition to having gluten free products, they also have a line of peanut free, nut free, lactose free, and no sugar added options.
They really go the extra mile when it comes to their gluten free products. They follow strict manufacturing procedures and test each and every batch both before and after it’s made to ensure it’s celiac safe. 75% of their new production space is also dedicated to gluten free products! Not only that, but they keep all forms of gluten – including airborne ones – away from products. This is another reason why my family has trusted Chapman’s products for so many years. At any given time, you can usually find one or two carton’s of Chapman’s ice cream in our freezer. We love putting it on homemade waffles, using it to make milkshakes or ice cream cookie sandwiches, and of course enjoying a few scoops in a bowl or on a gluten free ice cream cone.
As I mentioned earlier, the cookies and cream ice cream is one of my absolute favourite choices out of all of their gluten free flavours, but I’m also a huge fan of the orange pineapple, butterscotch ripple and cherry chocolate flavours. If I’m being completely honest, I have yet to find an ice cream flavour or frozen treat from their gluten free product line that I didn’t like – they’re all amazing! And yes, that means I also like mint chocolate chip ice cream, I honestly don’t understand how people dislike it. (I’m also team cilantro 😉.)
What’s your favourite kind of ice cream? I’d love to know if you’re team mint chocolate or not also!
