If you have been around the blog for a while, you’re probably familiar with my smoothie addiction (thanks to my Vitamix) and if you follow me on Instagram, my juice addiction. Seriously you guys, I love juice.
So why is juicing so great anyways? Well, juicing extracts all those vitamins, minerals and nutrients out of your veggies and fruit and packs them into a delicious drink that can only be described as “nectar from the gods” (okay, I’m probably exaggerating a bit with the last part). I also read on the Internet once that because the juicer is breaking down the food for you that your body absorbs the nutrients faster and more efficiently. So there’s that.
I personally love juice because I find it so hard to incorporate enough fruits and veggies into my diet without it. As someone with tummy troubles, I also find it helps my digestive system and I find I get sick less and it really helps prevent break outs. I also notice that I just feel ‘healthier’ and more energized pretty soon after drinking some.
Anyways, as soon as I discovered that there is a local juicer, I knew I had to get my hands on some juice and try it out!
Worth the Squeeze is based out of Bowmanville and delivers to many areas of Durham Region. The owner, Mary, is owned and operated by Mary, a holistic nutritionist who is passionate about helping others learn about the benefits of eating foods closest to their natural state. In total, there are 8 different flavours you can choose from. Each juice is packed with it’s own health benefits including everything from improving your skin, boosting your immune system to reduce inflammation. I tried 4/8 flavours: The Peeler, Citrus Love, Glow and Mad Beets.
The Peeler
I dove into this one first, knowing that it would likely be one of my favourites of the bunch, green smoothies and juices are always my first go-to. The peeler is packed full of some of my favourite things: spinach, apple, cucumber, lemon, ginger and celery. Benefits of this bad boy are that it is skin purifying (we all know I need more of this in my life), anti-oxidizing and is energizing.
I love this one because there was a really strong lemon taste, it was definitely the dominant flavour of this juice. You could also distinctly taste the apple and the hints of celery. It was easy to tell that there was spinach in it too but it wasn’t over powering.
Citrus Love
Citrus Love just has *the prettiest* colour. I was so excited to try this one out just because it was so vibrant. Made with grapefruit, orange and lemon it’s packed full of Vitamin C and is alkalizing, kidney flushing and promote heart health.
Grapefruit is a funny thing with me. It’s one of those things that I can’t just eat, but for some reason I love it in juice or in salad dressings. Naturally, I was loving the fact that there was lemon in this one as well. The oranges balanced the grapefruit and lemon perfectly, creating a tangy-sweet flavour.
Glow
This was the second juice I tried, and I instantly fell in love with it too. It’s simple and sweet with carrot and apple, which are known for boosting your immune system, mental function, hair nail and skin health and is also cancer fighting. Talk about a powerful punch! Plus, it’s tasty, so it’s a win/win.
Although you can distinctly taste the carrot, it wasn’t overpowering at all like I was expecting it to be with just two ingredients. The apple made it incredibly sweet and I found this one to be the most refreshing juice of the bunch. It easily became my second favourite juice out of the four I tried.
Mad Beets
This one was the last juice I tried, and just like all the others, the flavour blew me away. Mad Beets is made with (you guessed it) beets, apple, carrots, cucumber, celery, ginger and lemon. It’s super powers are that it is kidney cleansing, anti-oxidizing and promotes a happy, healthy heart, liver and lungs.
You can really taste the beets in this one, but not in an overly strong way. I am usually very picky when it comes to anything with beets in it and I loved this one. I think it was my surprise favourite of the bunch. It doesn’t taste like your typical beet juice; I found it to be incredibly sweet and could easily identify the apple and hints of celery. If I’m being perfectly honest here… it kind of reminded me of a fruity sangria, but a thousand times healthier. I would be okay with a case of this showing up on my door step.
For those of you who are local, you can order online anytime through Worth the Squeeze’s Facebook page. You can also connect with Mary on Instagram. I can’t wait to get my hands on some more of her juices!
While Worth The Squeeze is completely online right now (meaning no store front), and you are the type of person who prefers to shop in-person you’re in luck! One of my favourite local shops Aide Bodycare, located in Oshawa, is hosting a Pop-Up shop on March 18th and Mary will be there with her juices. Fair warning though – when she has participated in pop-ups in the past her stuff sells out fast, so get there early! I know I will be there first thing.
Have any of you been bitten by the juice bug? Let me know your favourite juice combination!
