Review: Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara

January 28, 2017

I have an irrational fear of drugstore mascara. I don’t know why.. and it’s totally unjustified –  I’ve never really had a bad experience with it before! And then I was challenged to face my fears try a drug-store brand beauty product. In particular, Covergirl’s Lash Blast Mascara Collection. I opted to go for the voluminous waterproof lash blast mascara.

Out of all the drugstore brand mascaras out there, I’m glad that this was the option I was presented with. I have heard a lot of really good things about it before so that definitely had me feeling a little more optimistic and comfortable about trying it out.

In order to ensure that I gave this stuff a fair review, I wanted to make sure that I tried it exclusively for a long enough period. So, I’ve been using this mascara for about a month now. I’ve broken this review down into three main categories to make it a little easier to follow: price, first impressions, after 1-week of use,  long-term use and overall ranking.

Price: $
Obviously this item is incredibly affordable, at under $10 Cad! You really can’t argue with the price. That’s seriously all I have to say on the matter.

First impressions:

I was actually surprised at how conditioning the mascara was right off the bat. The formula is really moisturizing which left my lashes looking really healthy. I also really liked how dark the black was as I love a dramatic eye.

After one-week:
Call me crazy, but I think my lashes were looking a little longer and more moisturized when they were au natural! No clumping yet.

Long-term use:
It did start to get a little clumpy over time with increased use, but honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. The clumps I did experience were pretty minimal. I’ve actually had higher-end brands with way more clumping happening (and a lot sooner). I was most impressed that it didn’t seem to be drying out and the formula was maintaining its original moisture.

Overall:
I was really impressed at the quality of this mascara matched with the price and will definitely be using it some more regularly. Don’t get me wrong, my Make Up Forever mascara is still my #1, but I can easily see this one becoming my go-to mascara for every day use to help keep costs down. I will say though it does have a bit of a strong smell, but if you can get past that it is a great option for an affordable mascara.

Are any you guys irrationally scared of drugstore brands too? I’m so happy that I was challenged to try out this mascara because now I’m definitely more open to experimenting with more drug store cosmetics. I’ve always loved drugstore brand lipstick, (NYX and Revlon are my go-to’s) but that’s all I’ve ever really tried.

Now that I’m over my fear, I want to know what your favourite drug store brands are! Please recommend some stuff for me to try! I’m officially a changed person ;).
