I’m back with another fun and cozy DIY for fall!
I’m almost always cold, so it’s no surprise that I love reading socks and if you ask me you can never have too many. I’m sure many of you have seen those popular ‘If you can read this, bring me a glass of wine/beer’ socks. (I even have one for cake.)
I thought it would be really cute to make a pair of my own that were fall themed. So I hunted down some orange thermal socks and got to work!
Yes, I’m on team PSLs (pumpkin spice lattes). Pumpkin is one of my favourite fall flavours and PSLs are one of my absolute favourite fall treats, so naturally I had to make my socks reflect my love for them. If you’re not pro-PSL, you could easily swap it out to be anything!
Here’s what you’ll need for this DIY:
DIY Customized socks for Fall
- Cricut Maker (Cricut.com / Amazon.ca)
- EasyPress 2 (Cricut.com / Amazon.ca) or an iron
- Iron-on material, in the colour of your choice – I used the Sport-flex iron-on for mine
- Cricut essential tools
- Standard-grip cutting mat
- Some cozy socks, I got mine from Amazon
Step 1: Using the Cricut Design Space, choose a font you like and brainstorm some creative sayings for your socks! For this type of DIY, I personally like the look of a bold, sans-serif font. Impact and Oswald are both great options in my opinion.
It doesn’t even have to be fall themed, but if you do want to be here are some ideas:
- PSL
- Pumpkin pie
- Apple cider
- Apple pie
- Turkey
- Chai tea latte
- Hot cocoa
Step 2: Once you’re happy with your design, it’s time to load your Cricut. Make sure you roll out your iron-on material onto your cutting mat with the shiny side is down. Using the essential tools, smooth out any air bubbles.
Once that is done, connect your Cricut to your device and select the type of iron-on material you are using. I opted to use the Sport-flex iron-on since it’s a little more flexible and the socks would be stretching as they’re put on.
Make sure you also select “mirror image” before you start cutting.
Step 3: After your cut is done, it’s time to get out the EasyPress!
Using the EasyPress temperature guide, select the type of iron-on you’re using as well as the material of your socks to find out the temperature recommendations.
Heat up your EasyPress and lay out your design on your socks. Once the EasyPress is heated up it’s time to get ironing. After you’re done adhering your design, let it cool for a minute or so and carefully peel back the edges of the clear backing.
Step 4: Grab some snacks, roll on your socks (after they’ve cooled down of course) and start your Netflix marathon or grab a good book and enjoy!
That’s it! Easy-peasy, am I right?
With Christmas right around the corner, I also think these would make for a great, personalized gift too. You could even make it a cute gift basket with some mugs, movies or books, tea, etc.
Happy crafting!
