Holy grail beauty products – Tatcha’s Water Cream review

August 26, 2020

It’s not every day that I write a blog post dedicated completely to one beauty product, but here we are! I usually like to do a  list of my fav products or a round-up post of ones that I’m loving lately, but I love Tatcha’s Water Cream so much that it deserved a post all to itself.

Seriously – I love this product.

As always, since everyone’s skin is different what works for me might not work for you. For reference, my skin type is as follows:

  • Combination skin – leans more towards oily during the warmer months
  • Sensitive skin – sensitive to touch, heavy fragrances and some ingredients
  • Acne prone, primarily on my chin and the odd breakout on my t-zone

I’m one of those people who is always a little bit nervous when buying new skincare products, (especially ones with an $89 CAD price tag), and often spend hours reading reviews online before purchasing them so I thought that I would take the time to write one of my own since this product has become one of my holy grails.

As someone with comb-sensitive skin, most moisturizers that I’ve tried always ended up being the enemy. Regardless if it was a lightweight or a heavy formula, my skin never really loved any of the moisturizers I tried. In most cases, my skin would get even more oily and they would cause acne – but not this product.

Tatcha’s Water Cream was a game changer for me just after one-week. It’s a light-weight moisturizer and almost has a gel-like consistency. It has helped me keep my skin hydrated without causing any breakouts. Overall, my skin’s oil production is down, my usual mid-day shine on my T-zone is much more under control and it’s even helped clear up my acne. I use this moisturizer both in the a.m. and p.m. as the last item in my skincare routine.

Highlights:

  • Oil-free
  • Anti-aging
  • Hydrating but not heavy
  • Pore-perfecting
  • Absorbs almost instantly

According to Tatcha’s website, the powerful Japanese botanicals in this product such as wild rose and leopard lily are what help to do this. The Japanese wild rose works to tighten pores and smooth out skin texture, while the leopard lily helps control excess oil and clarifies the skin.

It also jam-packed with 3 antioxidant-rich Japanese superfoods with anti-aging properties: Uji Green Tea, Okinawa Red Algae and Akita Rice. These ingredients work together to restore a youthful appearance and radiance.

I know what you’re thinking – $89 is a lot of money, and I hear you, it’s a lot of money to spend on a product for the first time if you’re not sure if it will work or not.

Luckily, Tatcha actually sells mini-versions of almost all their products so you can try it out for a faction of the price before committing to the full-sized and full-priced product. (I wish every company would do this!) If you’re a frequent Sephora shopper, you can also often get samples of their products or mini-sized ones for free with your reward points – this is how I actually first found this product and subsequently fell in love with it.

At the end of the day, after struggling with my skin for years and finally finding a product that works for me I honestly don’t care about the cost plus the product lasts for a really long time. Confidence is priceless and if a product works it’s worth it in my eyes – regardless of the price tag. (Thanks, Tatcha!)
