I really love my Cricut Joy – one of my favourite things to make on it is cards. The Cricut Joy App makes it so incredibly easy to create a card for any occasion in just a few minutes. Recently, Cricut launched a new card system for the Joy, Cutaway Cards, and I just had to get my hands on some to try it myself!
I always like to have some blank cards on hand, because you never know when you’re going to need one. There are a few different ways you can make cards using the Cricut Joy and the Insert Card system. You can make cards with cut-only designs, or you can incorporate a pen or marker with your design! For these options, you can use either Design Space or the Cricut Joy App, but personally, I really love to use the app because it makes it so quick and easy to create beautiful cards.
How are cutaway cards different from insert cards?
Cricut Joy Cutaway Cards are a brand new type of card. They’re different from Insert Cards in the sense that you’re no longer required to design with stencil images and fonts, so you can avoid tiny, floating pieces. This means you can use almost any image in the library to create a Cutaway Card, which gives you thousands of design options!
You also don’t need the corner slots for the inserts either. This is because the backing actually has adhesive, making it easier than ever to stick it into place.
How to use cutaway cards?
Step 1: prep your card
Cutaway Cards are just as easy to use as Insert Cards – if not easier! To get started, simply adhere the stand-out backer to your card by peeling off the liner on the inside of the card and sticking the backer into place.
Step 2: cut your design
Next, use Cricut Design Space or the Cricut Joy App to create and cut your personalized design, or use a ready-to-make project, and click “make it” to send the card to your Cricut Joy to be cut. The machine only cuts through the top layers of the card and the adhesive, leaving the beautiful backer piece.
Step 3: weed your card
Once your design is cut, unload your machine and weed away the cutouts. The weeded pieces will be sticky because of the adhesive, but your backer will not. That’s it! See, I told you it was easy to use.
Cricut joy card app
The Cricut Joy App makes it so easy (and fast!) to create beautiful, custom cards for any occasion in just a few minutes. The app is available for iOS or Android devices via the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Thanks to the Cricut Joy card system, I will never buy a drugstore card last minute again! I like to always like to keep a few pre-made everyday cards and blank card sets on hand so that I always have a card for any occasion. Making a card with my Cricut Joy is honestly faster than going to the store to buy one, too!
