Currently Reading: Leave Your Mark

August 5, 2015

I’m the first person to admit that I always buy books based on the cover. (I’m a total sucker, an advertiser’s dream if you will.) Because of this, more often than I’d like to, the books I end up buying are terrible with only a few occasional surprise gems. Spoiler alert: don’t buy books based on the cover. Unless it’s this one.

I bought Leave Your Mark on a whim for three reasons, and three reasons only:

  1. Because it had a cute cover that I could relate to (I’m talkin’ bout that lipstick covered coffee cup!)
  2. Because everyone was posting cute Instagram photos with it – I mean everyone
  3. Because the cover said ‘social media’ and I a social media specialist by day, after all.

Clearly I needed this book.

And for once, thanks to the Book Gods, I found a book as good as the cover art. I’m still 63 pages away from finishing it, (and 63 pages away from crossing off another item on my Summer Bucket List!) but I’m loving it so much I just had to share it with you now! (Fingers crossed I didn’t just jinx myself!!)

Let me start off by saying, you do not have to be in social media, PR or marketing in order to get something out of this book. I mean it. Yes, some of these lessons are simple – but often they’re so simple you’ll be thinking ‘Crap! Why didn’t I think of that?!’ while you’re reading them. While others are more along the lines of insider tips that will definitely help anyone get ahead in their career; it’s pretty inspiring. Plus, Aliza is pretty freaking entertaining. Girl can write. (Well, I guess that’s why she’s in communications… but gosh, she is funny.) Plain and simple: this book is useful and FUN!

Anyways, I thought I would include three of my favourite quotes from the book – in the form of wallpapers! Huzzah!

Seriously guys, go pick up a copy.

Have you read an inspiring book lately, or just one you’d totally recommend to a friend? Let me know! I’m totally loving getting back into reading things other than blogs… it’s been a while! In the meantime, I’m off to go finish reading this!

P.S. – Wallpaper downloads and other freebies: is this something you’d like to see more of? Y / N?

I had content planned to post sooner (like this photo as I’m sure you can clearly tell by the Christmas decorations 😅), but life happened and I ended up taking a break from Instagram for the rest of my holidays which honestly was really nice.

This week was my first week back to work, so I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with my pjs and Ruffi again this weekend.

’Tis the season for ugly Christmas sweaters! 🎄🎄🎄

This one has been a favourite of mine for a few years now. It might be time for me to get a new one to keep things fresh… or should I say ‘pine' fresh. See what I did there? Ok, I’ll see myself out. 🙈 #uglychristmassweater #christmas2020
