Cozy winter style: it’s toque season!

January 15, 2019

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’m the worst Canadian. I absolutely hate winter and the cold. Which is kinda a problem because being a Canadian our longest season is well… winter. And it can get pretty gosh darn cold in Ontario. (It’s -30°C this week with the windchill and it’s only the start of January!)

I’m someone who gets cold easily to begin with, so when you add winter to the mix I’m downright miserable… and so is everyone around me who has to listen to me whine about it ;). If it was up to me, it would be fall and spring all year long. (Anyone know a place where the weather is like that? SOS.)

I do however love winter fashion for two reasons, and two reasons only: toques and chunky sweaters. I’m all about those cozy vibes!

Hat: Handmade by Sweet Infinkity, Sweater: H&M, Jeans: ZARA, Boots: Aldo Group (Global Shoes), Crossbody: Kate Spade, Watch: Michael Kors, Rings: Lana Betty

This grey turtle neck sweater (from H&M) is one of my absolute favourite items for winter. It is typically on a weekly rotation in my winter wardrobe.

One of the reasons why I love oversized knit sweaters so much is because of how versatile they are.It looks great with just about anything: black pants, parachute pants, skirts, or with plain ol’ jeans for a more casual look like I did here. Sweaters like this are also so comfy. It’s honestly like you’re wearing pyjamas! (Only you look much more stylist.)

I’m also a sucker for winter toques with ginormous pom-poms, like this super cute (and handmade!) one from a local shop, Sweet Infinknity. It’s a little hard to tell in these photos, but this grey toque has little white knitted hearts all over it. How cute is that?!

I love pom-poms on winter hat’s so much that I recently sewed one onto a beanie hat that I got from the BT21 Toronto Pop-up at the Scarborough Town Centre. I actually found a really cool 12-pack of faux fur pom-poms on Amazon for $20 CAD that come with snaps attached to them so you can swap out the colour of your pom to suit your mood (yes, really). Watch out world, I’m putting pom-poms on all the things!

What are your favourite things about winter fashion?

I was gifted @kaiorganicscompany’s everyday balm I was gifted @kaiorganicscompany’s everyday balm a few weeks ago and I’m absolutely loving it!

They’re a small business local to the GTA, and y’all know I’m big on shopping local, so I thought I would share a little mini review here since it’s been working so well for me.

I’ve been especially dry this winter and ended up getting a dry patch on one my hands that was actually starting to really bother me. It was super itchy and became really uncomfortable. None of my usual creams seemed to help, but I noticed a huge difference just after a few days of using this balm and now it’s completely gone!

The everyday balm is made with chamomile, shea butter, beeswax and is packed with vitamin A, E and F, and is gluten-free. It's so nourishing and a little really goes a long way. (It’s amazing how little you need!) I can definitely see this becoming a winter staple for me. #ShopLocalON
