I really love my Cricut Joy – one of my favourite things to make on it is cards. The Cricut Joy App makes it so incredibly easy to create a card for any occasion in just a few minutes. Currently, the app is available only for smart devices, but it’s so much faster than Design Space when it comes to making simple projects using your Cricut Joy and has thousands of different project options.
I always like to have some blank cards on hand, because you never know when you’re going to need one. There are a few different ways you can make cards using the Cricut Joy. You can make insert cards or cutaway cards, and can even incorporate a pen, marker or foil transfers with your design!
1. Insert cards
The insert cards are the original card system for the Cricut Joy! They’re so quick and easy to make (seriously – it takes less than five minutes!) and come in three different sizes and a large variety of different colours. All you need is your insert card mat, an insert card kit and your Cricut Joy.

2. Cutaway cards
Cutaway cards are the most recent addition to the Cricut Joy card system lineup! Just like insert cards, they’re so easy to make. The main difference is that with a cutaway card instead of inserting the card backing, it adheres to the back of your card with adhesive.

3. with pens/marker drawings
If you want to kick things up a notch with the insert card system, you can use either a pen or marker to create your cards! You can do a completely drawn design, or use them in combination with the knife blade to create a unique creation. Because you need to switch out the blade/pen halfway, they take a little longer to make but not much – you can still create a beautiful card in under 10 minutes this way. You can use pen or markers with both insert or cutaway cards.

4. Foil transfer cards
I love the foil system for the Cricut Joy, it gives you even more options to create cards! As you all know, I was super excited when Cricut introduced their Foil Transfer System for the Maker and Explore machines last year, so naturally was super excited to get my hands on it and try it on some insert cards. With the Cricut Joy foil system, you will need to use the Cricut Joy App in order to change the pen/marker lines to foil.

5. create 4 cards at once with the cricut 4×4 card mat
If you want to kick things up a notch with the Cricut card system, you can use the new card mat for the Cricut Maker or Explore machines with the insert card or cutaway card system! It allows you to make up to four cards at once and they can all be different styles. You can do a completely drawn or cut design, or use the knife blade with pens/markers to create a unique creation. Because you need to switch out the blade/pen halfway, they take a little longer to make but not much – you can still create a beautiful card in just a few minutes this way.
The Cricut Joy App makes it so much easier to make custom cards on the go, so be sure to download the app already if you haven’t already. The app is available for smart devices through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Happy crafting!
